Jr. or Sr. Season? This Is Your Time to Shine ππ
Hey now, it's your MamaHen β€οΈ β your D1 college football coach's wife and mama to two amazing D1 football and basketball players. Go ahead and pour your coffee, pull up a chair, and let me talk directly to every junior and senior athlete β and the family standing behind them β who is in the thick of recruiting season right now.
Whether you've got a handful of offers already sitting on the table or you're still waiting for that very first phone call β hear me when I say this: this is your season. Don't let the noise, the star ratings, or somebody else's commitment post convince you otherwise.
Let's get into it.
First, Let Me Say This Out Loud π
I've been in this game a long time. As a coach's wife for over 30 years, an AAU mom, and a football mom who watched her own children walk through every high and every gut-wrenching low of the recruiting process β I know what this season can feel like. It can feel like pressure. Like the world is watching and the clock is ticking. Like maybe the door already closed and nobody told you.
But here's what I know for certain: it's not how you start. It's how you finish.
Coaches are still watching. Recruiting staffs are still evaluating. Decisions are still being made right now β TODAY. And the athletes who stay ready, stay hungry, and keep showing up? Those are the ones who finish strong.

A Few Offers or No Offers β Does the Number Really Matter? π
Let me be honest with you, mama to mama, dad to dad.
Some of your athletes are sitting in this season with five or six offers. Some have one or two. And some β good, hardworking, talented kids β are sitting in this season with zero, feeling like they've been completely overlooked.
Here's what I need you to hear: that number does not define your child's future.
I've watched kids with zero offers in September walk into December with full scholarships. I've watched highly recruited athletes who rushed the process end up struggling. This recruiting journey is a marathon, baby β and you don't win a marathon in the first mile.
The question isn't how many offers they have right now. The real question is: are they doing everything it takes to earn one?

Your MamaHen Game Plan: What Every JR and SR Needs to Do RIGHT NOW β
Ok, let's get practical. Here is exactly what I want every junior and senior β and their family β focused on this season:
1. Get Those Grades Up β No Excuses. π
No offer goes anywhere without the grades to qualify. This is the non-negotiable foundation. If the GPA needs work, the time is now. Not next semester. Not senior year when it's too late. Right now. Coaches love talent, but they cannot recruit a student who can't be eligible. Do the work in the classroom the same way you do it on the court or field.
2. Update That Recruiting Profile β TODAY. π»
Is the recruiting account current? And I mean really current β contact information, updated stats, recent measurables, academic standing? Coaches and recruiting coordinators are searching those databases right now, looking for athletes who match what they need. If the profile is sitting there with outdated information from two years ago, your athlete is invisible to the people who matter most. Log in and fix it today.
3. Make Sure Those Hudl and Highlight Films Are FRESH. π¬
Coaches do not have time to sit through hours of game tape to find your athlete's best moments. They need to see the good stuff β quickly and clearly. If the highlights are from last season or early this year, it's time to update. Your film needs to show who your athlete is right now, not who they were. New plays, new reps, new footage. Keep it clean, keep it current, and always lead with your strongest moments.
4. Reach Out β Don't Just Sit and Wait. π©
This is where I see so many good families go wrong. They wait. They hope. They assume the coaches will find them. And sometimes they do β but often they don't. A respectful, professional email or message to a recruiting coordinator can open a door that's been sitting closed. Introduce the athlete. Attach the updated film. Lead with academics. Be proactive. Y'all, the squeaky wheel gets the oil.
5. Show Up in Every Practice and Every Game Like It's Being Evaluated. π₯
Coaches aren't just showing up to Friday night lights anymore. They send scouts. They watch summer league. They pull clips from social media. Every rep matters β even the ones where you think no one is watching. You don't know which moment is going to be the moment. So stay ready for all of them.

To the Mamas and Dads Carrying This Weight π
I see you. I know what it feels like to watch your child pour everything they have into a dream β every early morning, every late practice, every sacrifice β and still wonder if the phone is ever going to ring.
It is hard. It is emotional. And some nights? It just doesn't feel fair.
But I need you to stay steady for your athlete, because your energy becomes their energy. Your panic becomes their doubt. Your faith becomes their fuel.
Keep that household stable. Keep encouraging them. Hold the standard in grades, character, and work ethic β and trust the process even when the process feels impossibly slow. And if you ever feel lost or unsure about the next step, reach out. That is exactly what MamaHen is here for.
The Bottom Line π
If your athlete is a junior or senior right now β this is their season. Not next year. Not someday down the road. Right now.
Make sure those grades are solid. Update the recruiting profile. Refresh the highlight film. Show up every single day and do the work β because I promise you, the right coaches are watching.
It is not how you start.
It is how you finish.
And MamaHen is right here in the stands, cheering every single one of you all the way to the finish line. πͺβ€οΈ
I'm MamaHen β€οΈ β tune in to my LIVES and follow along as we talk through recruiting season, scholarship strategy, and everything your family needs to navigate this journey. We are in this thing together. Bye now! π
